From the present study, it can be concluded that sodium chloride
in a concentration (2.8, 4.2 or 5.6 dsm1) dependent manner
through soil significantly retarded plant growth, pace of
photosynthesis and ultimately the seed yield in the B. juncea
(L.) Czern and Coss cv. Varuna and RH-30, even though the
plants exhibited a higher antioxidant enzyme activity and an
accumulation of proline (the protective mechansims). The variety
RH-30 was more sensitive to the salt stress than Varuna.
