The exploratory study had two purposes: (1) to understand how students perceived their
own spiritual well-being and spirituality, and (2) to explore students' perceptions of spiritual nursing care, and how those perceptions changed during the 4 years of their nursing education. In particular, we were interested in understanding how students felt about providing spiritual care to those with differing beliefs and values. This is important in a curriculum where many of the students are from evangelical religious backgrounds and may feel they should use vulnerable periods in a patient's life to influence their beliefs.
