The attachment of the Malpighian tubules is another
distinguishing characteristic among the groups. The
four tubules united at the base, as described here for
the “striatus group” and P. araujoi are also present in
Cornitermes bolivianus (unpublished data) and in Silvestritermes,
Cyrilliotermes and Curvitermes. This is
another probable case of convergence relative to the
last three genera, but more detailed studies are needed
to establish whether this is the case in C. bolivianus.
