Recent studies are also orientated towards
the re-engineering of this yeast’s versatile lipid
metabolism towards the production of industrially
valuable lipid-derived compounds, such as wax
esters (WEs), isoprenoid-derived compounds (carotenoids,
polyenic carotenoid ester), polyhydroxyalkanoates
(PHAs) and free hydroxylated fatty acids
(HFAs) (Haddouche et al., 2010, 2011; Sabirova
et al., 2010).
