Despite the small variation in Hb levels
found, which seems to have little meaning
from a clinical perspective as the values
were above the cut-off point for anemia,
this difference was statistically significant
and the Hb levels were higher in the After
fortification group. Consequently, even with
the differences observed between groups, it
is possible to assume that the flour fortification
strategy has contributed to this result,
although one should not ignore the contribution
of other aspects not analyzed that
were associated with different social policies
implemented during this period. However,
this result does not reject the importance
of prenatal care and drug supplementation
with ferrous sulfate during pregnancy.
