These results suggested that Bxb possessed remarked analgesic
activity. The analgesic activity of Bxb extract on both phases of the
formalin test suggests both direct analgesic effects on the nociceptor
and an inhibition of inflammatory pain. Thus, its mode of
action possibly involves the release of prostaglandins and/or other
pain mediators. Experimental results have indicated that there is
an increase of prostaglandin in peritoneal fluids, serotonin and
histamine after intraperitoneal injection of acetic acid (da Silveira
e Sa´ et al., 2010).
