3.2 Prosecution of Traffickers
TRAFCORD lawyers first become involved in the prosecution process during the rescue operation advising the police on the gathering of evidence. They will then advise police on the best charges to make against the arrested in order to gain best protection for the victims as well high penalties for the perpetrators. TRAFCORD lawyers will then work with the Public Prosecutors to assist in preparing the best case for court. The court process can very slow in Thailand, so TRAFCORD needs to be constantly following up legal cases with the courts, identifying delays and helping to move cases forward. In other cases it may be necessary to extend cases to include new victims, new evidence and new perpetrators. Again in other cases it may be necessary to chase up arrest warrants. At all times the safety and protection of the victim/witness in both the short term and the long-term will be a prime concern.
