Lesson: A talk, speech, or presentation requires information; it requires either artistic (Your own
stuff) or inartistic (Already existing) content. Today’s activity is based on inartistic content. A
speaker must do their research and know what they are talking about so that the audience is
comfortable and trusting; this is called ETHOS. ETHOS means that you, as a speaker, can
persuade the audience; they trust you. The term middle-style (informative speech) is a speech
that is designed to inform. We are not learning public reading; we are learning public speaking.
There is a great need for practice to make a speech successful. It must be practiced until there
are no mistakes - not just until it is done right.
