The new North Tyneside Area Command headquarters building now being built has been given an 'excellent' rating for sustainable design.
The new station at Middle Engine Lane in Wallsend, due for completion at the end of 2010, has been given the British Research Establishment Environment Assessment Method (BREEAM) award.
To achieve this rating the sustainability of the building was assessed for a variety of factors including; ecology and pollution, health and well being, energy, transport and water usage.
The building's green design includes a bio-mass boiler, rain water harvesting and solar water heating panels.
