When the reduced irradiance treatments were given to 128-d old plants, the number of days to visible buds and to flower was not influenced significantly from irradiance treatments given to (data not presented). However, the number of flowers was significantly increased when plants were grown under 45% SH, regardless of when 20 d of treatments were given during 40 d of treatment as compared to those grown under 30% SH and ND (Table 3). For the 21–40 d period, the number of flowers was the lowest (13.6 flowers) for ND as compared to 30% or 45% SH.
