I’m a sucker for dessert. I can never turn down a happy ending, especially if it involves coconut cream. Even after a full blown Thai feast at Soul Food Mahanakorn, I had to get me some of Mae Varee Fruit Shop’s notorious mango sticky rice. Word on the street is that there ain’t no mango sticky rice like Mae Varee’s. They’ve been killin’ the game for over 20 years and has earned the reputation for having the best mango sticky rice in Bangkok. I definitely recommend hitting up this spot for some legit Thai desserts!
Mae Varee’s is located in Thong Lor just down the street from Soul Food. Look for a giant faux mango, and you’ll know you’re at the right spot. Amazing mango sticky rice aside, Mae Varee also offers a selection of fruits, gift baskets, snacks and desserts. We were pretty stuffed, so we just copped that mango sticky rice. Apparently, the durian sticky rice is delicious too, if you’re into that. Mae Varee’s did not disappoint. The mango was sweet and ripe atop perfectly cooked warm glutinous rice. The coconut cream and toasted yellow mung beans were served separately. I pretty much doused the entire bag of coconut cream on the mango and sticky rice and made it rain crunchy bits of mung bean. SOOO GOOD!
