Respondents were sought from each of the major forest workforce regions of New Zealand (Byers, 1995). Over a 3-month period, all silviculture and logging

workers present during visits by members of the study team to crews working in each region were approached to participate in the survey. Although this recruitment method does not obtain a random sample, it does have the advantage of being less susceptible to volunteer bias.
