inputs to the basic G/G/m relationships are
straightforward. By examining the many possible
combinations of inputs, it is possible to derive detailed
information regarding lead time and production
expectations that can guide management decisions.
This study results in an optimization model that can
allocate workers to a set of parallel stations where
multiple products are involved. The model can
incorporate additional products if needed. Future work
will examine the queuing model further to address the
discrepancy with simulation. Machine interference from
workers tending to more than one station should be
considered, as would be the case with automated work
centers. Finally, operations in series should be included in
the study.
