The study presented here is a part of a Matra project
(“Together Towards Clean Air in Eskisehir and Iskenderun”
9S0635.01)carried out inEskişehirtoinvestigate air pollution
and its health effects on primary schoolchildren. Ambient air
concentrations of pollutants during study period were determined by using reliable methods inthe literatureand details of
air quality measurements and health survey have been described elsewhere (Gaga et al. 2012; Altuğ et al. 2013).
Briefly, spatial distribution of pollutants was investigated by
a preliminary passive sampling campaign carried out at 65
points. Based on the results of this campaign, schools for the
measurementoflungfunctionparameterswereselected(Gaga
et al. 2012). Pulmonary function tests were performed for
1,841 and 1,497 children from 16 schools in summer (May
27–June 12, 2008) and winter (February 27–March 12, 2009)
