m waiting for the 18th of May when there's a chance of a rebate on the 40D. I'll also order a back-up battery but see that according to Phil's review, I have the following options:
BP-511A (the one that comes with the camera), BP-511, BP-512, BP-514
Is there any difference? Is there any preference?
I know there are cheaper alternatives of non-Canon batteries, but have decided to pay the extra and go true blue Canon so there's never a claim by any repair shop that the non-recommended battery caused a problem.
Thanks,
I believe they all work. The difference is that they all are 7.4 Volt batteries but the mAh's are different. The higher the mAh, the longer they last or more pictures can be taken. My BP-508 from my Canon Camcorder is 800 mAh. The BP-511 I replaced it with, is 1400 mAh and the both the BP-511A and 512 are even higher.
Do a Google and find some online retailers that sell these batteries, they can give you more detailed information. That is how I found out the information I needed for my camcorder replacement battery.
FYI; In some cases the higher the mAh, the larger the battery which means it might not fit into a internal battery compartment such as a 40D. On my camcorder, the battery is external so the bigger battery, had no impact.
