Leaders must be flexible to motivate different kinds of employees. Because leadership is a process of influencing behavior, leaders must create a motivational architecture before problems arise in order to help all employees achieve their potential. In a broader sense, this means setting up systems (such as rewards and group culture) that motivate beneficial behaviors and demotivate harmful ones. It also means enabling employees who try to succeed and identifying and eliminating obstacles that get in the way of employees doing a good job.
