In sum, the above requirements for effective CE – namely, the need for (1) relevant and timely information, (2) an integrated view of the organization, and (3) effective communication – appear to be closely aligned with the main attributes of IT—i.e., enabling the efficient collection and dissemination of information across the organization, helping to electronically integrate disparate business activities and providing access to multiple communication media. This apparent alignment suggests that IT capabilities can play an important enabling role for CE activities within firms and help firms achieve sustained competitive advantage and superior performance
