surin province had been settled be the ancient Cambodian. After the decadence of the ancient Cambodian, The city of Surin was left abandoned until the year 1763 that Luang Surin Phakdi (Chiang Pum), the former Chief of "Muang Thi Village" has ask head of Pimai City for the royal permission to move form Muang Thi to "Khu Prathai Village" due to its favorite conditions. (The present Surin Province). Later on, the King Suriyamarindh graciously raised the status of Khu Prathai Village to "Muang (City) Prathai Samant" and promoted Luang Surin Phakdi to Phraya Surin Phakdi Srinarong Chang Wang, the head of city. In the year 1786 the King Rama I of Rattanakosin Monarchy had graciously renamed Muang Prathai Samant to "Surin" based on the name of the head of city.
