Although the
mean population size was similar in both reserves for the
duration of the study (18.6 ± SE 1.0 in Northern Tuli,
16.5 ± SE 1.8 in Venetia) there was a significant difference
(U543; P,0.05, Mann–Whitney U-Test) in population
density between the reserves (mean 2.6 lions per 100 km2 in
Northern Tuli and 5.0 lions per 100 km2 in Venetia; Fig. 2a).
