• Recommended by some physicians for staphylococcal or streptococcal endotoxin-mediated disease, particularly when toxic shock syndrome has been diagnosed. IVIG has been shown to have no effect on outcome in suspected or proven neonatal sepsis. A Cochrane review noted that standard and immunoglobulin M (IgM)-enriched polyclonal immunoglobulins, as well as standard polyclonal IVIG, did not decrease the number of deaths in infants. In the same review, IVIG was shown to reduce mortality in some studies, but this was not reproduced in trials with low risk of bias. Therefore, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of IVIG in the management of sepsis.
