The book is divided into four parts, each dealing with the crossing of organizational boundaries: hierarchical or vertical boundaries between managers and their people; horizontal boundaries between functions and departments; external boundaries between companies and their suppliers and customers; and geographic boundaries between domestic businesses and businesses elsewhere in the world. Each of the four parts begins with a chapter on how the present "boundaried" approach fails to meet the challenges required for today's organizations: speed, flexibility, integration, and innovation. A second chapter in each part shows how a boundaryless approach can surmount these challenges. A final chapter deals with making it happen
