Halloween is celebrated on the last day of October. It comes from an old Christian holiday that took place on November first, and was called “All Saints Day”. the night before All Saints Day was called "All Hallowed Eve", and it was thought that ghosts and spirits would come knocking on the door in the from of beggars. If you welcomed them, and gave them somting to eat, you would have good luck for the rest of the year.
After a long time, the custom changed andit became popular for children to dress up as ghosts or spirits, and go from house asking for a treat. The modern tradition and the name change to Halloween came about in the last 200 years or so. It is now a night for costume parties and merriment. Large pumpkins are carved into “jack-o-lanterns” and a candle is put inside to light them. Children go through their villages in costumers and masks. They stop at each house and say “Trick or treat” for candy, popcorn, apples, or cookies. Aduts aftend Halloween parties and some people decorate their house with phosts, witches, and black eats.
