4. Discussion
Bio-floc naturally forms in pond water as aggregates of nitrifying
bacteria, organic materials, inorganic flocculants, and suspended
algae. Bio-floc technology (BFT) has been applied in
shrimp farming [6]. However, there are few challenges to apply
the technology to commercial shrimp farms because of external
environmental factors. For instance, high level of solar energy and
intensity can induce the over productivity of microalgae, which
cause oxygen exhaustion and water quality problems in open
farms
