There is no proof that uneven-aged forestry could
increase the biodiversity of the forests, especially, if the
proportion of Norway spruce is gradually increasing. Small
clearcuts maximizing borderlines between individual
stands, the establishment of mixed stands of broadleaved
and the conifers and the mosaic of small stands in different
age classes guarantees good living conditions both for light
and shade-demanding plants and animals. The landscape
values of the forest can be maintained or destroyed, no
matter the age-structure of the stand.
