Chaovalit himself was also suffering from the condemnation launched by Suchinda and repeated by Kukrit, that he favoured a "presidium" style of government. In response to Kukrit's comments, Chaovalit filed a libel suit, claiming that he had been defamed. At the same time, he also initiated legal proceedings against Suchinda for allegedly accusing him of trying to establish a pro-communist political system. But politically, both moves were too late. Whatever damage had been done to his reputation was not going to be recovered through the courts.
