I think most people could agree that 24 can be "close enough," since I quite clearly pointed out that in my argument I wasn't talking about a law--just a suggestion.
And you yourself say you "dealt with [your] 'bad eggs' around 21-22"; does it really sound so unreasonable to say, then, that if a person waits until they are safely clear of that time, then meets someone else, then gets to know them and decides they're The One, that person might not then be about, oh, say...25? Or thereabouts?
Your divorce point is entirely off-topic. There is a world of difference between "abomination" and "free-for-all," and I assume that on some level you know better. But aside from that, a quick look at the world around you will show that divorce is not remotely the worst outcome of a bad marriage...people have the capacity for abominations that are worthy of the name, and they tend to go after the ones they love.
