BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 20 (Xinhua)-- Brunei's Ministry of Communications is planning to establish passenger terminals in every strategic place in a bid to improve public transportation in the sultanate, local daily Brunei Times reported Sunday.
During the 12th Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting, Minister of Communications Hj Mustappa said that the country needs an alternative form of transportation that is efficient and offers various connectivity.
"The increasing number of private cars in the country indicates the need for an alternative form of transportation that is efficient and sufficient for domestic connectivity," he said.
"The implementation of passenger terminals could improve the standard of public transport in the country."
The minister said that under the passenger terminal concept, buses will stop at strategic places such as airport, government buildings, hospitals, hotels and some interesting places for the public and tourists.
He said that the bus station in the capital should not be there and should be turned into a passenger terminal instead.
"We want buses to keep moving instead of taking long breaks at the station in the capital," he added.
