A distinction between the concepts seems to be that
the use of self-determination is often associated with
issues related to the law and legal and ethical justice
(26–29), while autonomy has a more philosophical
and pure ethical basis (26,50,54). Freedom is included
in the definition of autonomy, but not in self-determination,
while process is not included in autonomy.
These distinctions suggest that although the concepts
are related, they are not the same.
