At firt it was not too heavy, buy very quickly the wind become more violent, and out of the west behind them came a white wall of rain, beating down into the sea. In seconds the red mainsail was black with water, and rivers of rain ran off the cabin roof into the cockpit. It was still too dangerous to think of turning back because they could see nothing through the rain. So they went on, and the wind blew them further and further away frow the land.
