TRAFCORD will arrange workshops for victims of human trafficking while they are staying in the government social welfare shelter at Song Kwae. These workshops will combine art therapy as well vocational skills training.
The art therapy workshop will act as a medium for victims to express and externalise the suffering they have been through and thereby come to terms with their trauma and look towards their futures with positivity. The workshop will be taught by a psychologist.
The vocational skills training will concentrate on income generating skills which they use to find work while they are in Thailand their right to which is stipulated in Article 37 of the human trafficking act. Previously there was a problem with matching skills and work experience of victims with actual work opportunities around shelters. Both these activities also help to motivate the victims to stand up for their rights and cooperate with legal proceedings to prosecute agents of human trafficking and seek compensation for damages. During a recent workshop on Article 37, it was recommended by government shelter authorities that this activity be arranged as victims lacked skills to find work locally.
