Being of an age where beauty seems to govern the social heirachy (which in turn governs our lives) I'm seeking to find comprehension as to what is accepted as beautiful and why this so readily controls our lives.
It seems that those in the upper echelons of playground politics are, on the whole, more aesthetically pleasing than many of us at the bottom.
Why is this the case?
Why should the tall blonde with legs the size of toothpicks be the one who decides which areas of the school the rest of us can sit in?
Not only do these people seem to be more beautiful, but also a lot uglier 'on the inside'. The kids that like to trip over little old ladies and the like.
As a society we hold common values as to what is beautiful, and the philosophy and science of aesthetics tries to determine why we so collectively categorise people based on their physical appearance.
Think about it: who would you rather hire as an employer, be friends with, be seen with, perve on, date, marry and the like? Someone who looks like Daphne, or someone who looks like Velma?
On the whole, beauty rules supreme. But why? And how come we don't let personality and intellect rule.
Then again..there aren't many aesthetically beautiful politicians, so maybe its just an adolescent phase...
