Properties of starch in group ‘b’ are affected only by initial water stress, values are either higher (Fig. 3.2, i) or lower (Fig. 3.3, ii) when compared to those of starch from the crop without initial water stress.
This change remains throughout the plant growth and does not recover even with late rainfall.
In this study granule size of starch from the crop with initial water stress was smaller than that from the crop without initial water stress and the granule remained small
even when the plants were provided with sufficient rainfall in the late development stage.
