In addition to tranditional Catholics, there is a large charismatic Catholic group of over five million members, called EI Shaddai. Their members are generally the poor, and over a million gather every week in a park beside Manila Bay to listen to their leader, Brother Mike Velardr, who preaches in colloquial Tagalog. He recently lost some credibility due to his close involvement with Joseph Estrada. His influence, however, should not be underestimated; he is interested in politics and his followers are likely to vote according to his instructions.
