Decentralization is a means of structuring an organization in such a way that decision-making is granted to those who are not clustered at the top of an organization. A decentralized organization structure may even extend decision making authority to the bottom levels of the organization or to those who are closest to the customer. Decentralization may refer to decision-making authority between a headquarters organization and those in the field (regional/local) in such a way that the field organizations may make decisions.
