Use of Vasopressors. The literature is insufficient to evaluate
the prolonged use of high-dose -adrenergic agonists
during spine surgery (Category D evidence). The SNACC
members agree that prolonged use of high-dose -adrenergic
agonists may reduce perfusion of the optic nerve in high-risk
patients; the consultants are equivocal, and the NANOS and
NASS members report no opinion.
