Bowie’s (1998) philosophical discussion of meaningful work illustrated many of the ideas from the different approaches to
job design that are grounded in organizational behavior and positive organizational scholarship.Bowie maintained that one of the moral obligations of the firm is to provide meaningful work to employees. Unfortunately, many managers will not likely see this obligation clearly. It is the hope of these authors that the research described above will provide some insight into the ethical decision-making surrounding particular forms of job design and that managers will take a positive approach that creates opportunities for individuals to flourish at work
