Months 1: The Concept and Definition of Hotel Accounting and Basic Accounting Principles.
The trainee will shadow Assistant Financial Accounting Manager or Financial Controller, in order to obtain a general understanding of the concept and definition of hotel accounting functions and basic accounting principles. The trainee will use the financial accounting reference guide for the trainee to use as further training. Through departmental meetings and training sessions conducted by the Assistant Financial Accounting Manager or Financial Controller the trainee will continue to learn the different aspects of the Financial Accounting. The Assistant Financial Accounting Manager, Financial Controller and / or Accounting Section Manager will assist the trainee to develop supervisory skills required to effectively lead support staff in the Financial Accounting department.
The financial accounting staff and manager will teach the trainee how to develop effective responses to financial accounting’s needs and how to handle all types of basic accounting principles, as outlined by Six Senses standards, to ensure that excellent financial accounting is provided.
Months 2 : The Accounting Records and How to use / Manage and Account for the Receivables and Payables.
The trainee will learn how to account for understand, manage and account for the receivables and payables. Trainees will then see how this information is used through vertical and horizontal analysis to assist in making business decisions. By the time the trainee has completed this portion of their training, they should be fully acclimatized with the hotel.
Months 3 and a half month: Inventory, Adjustments and Working Methods.
Trainees will learn how to determine if an account needs adjustment entries due to the matching principle concept. Trainees will be introduced to the types of adjustments resulting such as unearned revenue, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses and accrued revenue, along with typical examples of each type of adjustment. Depreciation is explored in more detail as the effect on the balance sheet can be significant.
Supervision
The supervisor in each department will provide a training manual and review it with the trainee. It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure that the trainee is receiving the instruction necessary to be able to perform and understand the assigned duties. The supervisor will give feedback to the trainee on performance.
Evaluation Process
The trainee will be reviewed on the completion of each section of the training plan. A final review will be completed prior to the completion of the program. The supervisor will meet with the trainee to formally discuss their performance and get the trainee’s feedback on the training they have received. On the job training is a necessary and required part of this experience in order for the trainee to relate the theoretical to the practical.
Cultural Awareness and Activities
Six Senses, Samui will ensure that the trainee receives relevant information on the people and culture of Thai. The resort will endeavor to ensure the trainee is able to experience as many cultural activities as possible.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the program, the trainee will be provided a “Thai Students Trainee” Certificate issued by Human Resources and Training.
