3.3. Infiltration and sediment runoff
In Nkhotakota, infiltration and
final infiltration rate were
significantly greater in NTM than CAR and CTR (Table 3).
Eliminating tillage and retaining residues significantly reduced
sediment runoff in NTM and CAR compared to CTR. In Dowa,
tillage, residue retention, nor crop rotations had a significant
impact on infiltration or
final infiltration rate. However, eliminating
tillage and retaining maize residue significantly reduced
sediment runoff in NTM compared to CTR. Averaged across
treatments;
final infiltration rate was significantly greater in
Nkhotakota (58 mm h1) than Dowa (33 mm h1), but there was no
significant difference in sediment runoff.
