The Sixth National Socio-Economic Development Plan 2006 - 2010 admits that the health sector and health service delivery system do not fully meet the requirements of the population, either in quantitative or qualitative terms.
Efforts are being made to meet the challenges, including the formulation of a National Growth and Poverty Eradication
Strategy of which health is a vital component. The strategy reiterates the government’s commitment to achieving the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and identifies improved access, equity, quality and strengthened capacity
of the health workforce as key goals.
