moisture from former Super Typhoon Noul continues to spread northward, causing tropical downpours in central and northern Japan through Tuesday night.
This tropical moisture is being pulled to the north along a cold front that is in the process of sweeping across Japan. Several inches of rain, along with a gusty wind, have already fallen into areas from Kyushu and Shikoku into southern Honshu.
Rainfall has averaged 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) across these areas with more than 125 mm (5 inches) in the hardest hit spots.
One home was damaged in one of the Amami Oshima islands, and two people were taken to the hospital for treatment, NTV news reported. Schoolchildren were asked to stay home, and some flights and ferries were cancelled.
