according to solidarity theory emotional aspect of the parent-child relationship are characterized by affective solidarity and the developmental stake. affective refer to positive sentiments between family members, including emotional closeness,trust, and respect (Bengtson et al,2002). the developmental stake hypothesis suggest that parents are more emotionally invested in the relationship than are their children due to their investment in their offspring as their future. Specifically, parent view their children as extensions of themselves and are concermed with passing on their values and with feeling emotional closeness(Giamm 2005). Research has found that parents often report felling closer and more positive regarding the relationship than do their children and these generational differences perist over time. In contrast, because children desire independence and are invested in developing their own families
