Statistics showed that the country’s incineration plant based at the Macao Incineration Centre,
processed 230,000 tonnes of solid waste in the year 2000, which increased to 320,000 tonnes in 2012,
a total increase of 39% across 12 years.
It was calculated that an average of almost 900 tonnes of solid waste needs to be incinerated every day,
of which about one third is food waste.
