As fly ash contains
both alumina and silica and is available in many parts of the world,
therefore, it is commonly used as a source material in making
geopolymer binder (Duxson et al., 2007). The fly ash-based geopolymer
mortar with compressive strength of 60e70 MPa was
obtained when 10e15 M NaOH, Na2SiO3 to NaOH ratio of 1.0, and
separate mixing were used (Rattanasak and Chindaprasirt, 2009).
In addition, Turner and Collins (2013) found that the CO2 footprint
of a sodium silicate based geopolymer for normal strength concrete
was approximately 9% less than Portland cement concrete.
