Some innovations were patented ones. In 1998, His Majesty presented his model and idea for the development of a prototype floating mechanical surface aerator, given the name of the “Chaipattana Aerator”. The device, adapted from a folk wisdom of a bamboo turbine, oxygenates water, thus useful in water pollution treatment, the oxidation increasing pollutant-destroying bacteria. The later Chaipattana aerator models, constantly improved, have been installed in different areas to treat water. The Low Speed Surface Aerator Model RX2, in 1993, was patented. His Majesty was the world’s first reigning monarch to own a patent.
