3.3. Lactic acid production as a function of immobilized
inoculum level
Varying levels (2–10%) of loofa sponge immobilized
with R. oryzae RBU2-10 mycelia using spore suspension
(3£106 sporesml¡1) were used. An inoculum level of 4% (4
pieces of loofa sponge of 1.008 cm3: 1.6£1.8£0.35cm, per
100ml media) had led to maximum levels of production. A
similar pattern was observed for the growth of the fungus
(Fig. 1c). Levels of signiWcance were up to 1% between
diVerent levels of inoculum.
