Other possible warehouse layouts are classified as hybrid types and provide for the receiving zone and shipping zone on contiguous sides of the warehouse. This layout (Figure 5.18) is especially useful in situations characterized by low material flows and in warehouses located in square buildings. The hybrid layout does not constrain the orientation of the aisles in the storage zone. Its layout can be longitudinal, that is, with shelving laid out perpendicularly to the shipping zone, or transversal, with the shelving laid out parallel to the shipping zone (see Figure 5.19).
