Pregnant women who are overweight or obese and do not take
regular exercise regularly are more likely to develop gestational
diabetes mellitus (GDM). The prevalence of GDM is increasing
worldwide. Between 2 and 9% of pregnant women develop GDM
depending on the population. The prevalence of GDM among pregnant
women in the United State of America and England was 3–6% and 3.5%,
respectively (Bhake & Dayan, 2010). In Thailand, 7.05% of screened
pregnant women were diagnosed with GDM (Lueprasitsakul, Teeyapun,
Kittivarakul, Srisupundit, & Patumanond, 2008)
