At IVC a homogeneous mixture of iso-octane, n-heptane, residuals/EGR, and air was assumed. The simulations captured the combustion characteristics reasonably well. However, the peak cylinder pressure and AHRR were slightly over predicted due to the neglected spatial inhomogeneity in fuel/EGR/air mixture. But, the results were extremely useful to provide guidelines for the selec- tion of combustion strategies, as described next.
