Blending polymers is an effective way to manipulate a material by
combining different components with desired properties. The blending
of PTT with metallocene-LLDPE (m-LLDPE) was explored by Jafari et al.
[17,18] and Run et al. [19]where they studied the performance upon the
addition of different compatibilizers. The researchers used Elvaloy®
PTWa terpolymer containing glycidal methacrylate [17,18] and an MA
grafted copolymer [19] as compatibilizers, which helped to increase
the interfacial adhesion between PTT/m-LLDPE and decrease the particle
size of the minor phase of the blends.
The importance of this study is the blending of two biobased polymers,
PTT and high density polyethylene (BioPE). The focus of this research
was to investigate the properties of blending PTT and BioPE to
create a balance in stiffness and toughness in order to improve the properties
of each individual polymer drawbacks and to engineer a new
biobased and sustainable material.
