A newer style that both Ms. Yavari and Ms. Fernandez particularly like is a straight and slightly wide trouser, sometimes pleated and sometimes not, that is cropped at the ankle. (Some call it a culotte, but that is a bit of a misnomer—they're longer than a classic culotte, which ends mid-calf.) When worn with a pair of heels, this cut can work nicely for women of various shapes. "It's a very fashion-forward pant, but I think a lot of women can pull it off," said Ms. Yavari. Stylebop will soon be stocking a nautical-inspired pair by Valentino, with gold buttons on its front pockets.
